Validation and
verification bodies
Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs) are independent third-party entities responsible for assessing projects to ensure they meet all applicable requirements before certification. Their impartial evaluations provide confidence that every certified result is based on accurate data, credible methodologies, and verifiable evidence, upholding the integrity of our system.
What are VVBs?
Accredited organisations that act as independent auditors for Cercarbono-certified projects. Their role is to give stakeholders confidence that reported results are accurate and credible. They perform two core functions:
Validation
Assessing a project’s design, methodology, and monitoring plan to ensure alignment with our standards.
Verification
Auditing ongoing implementation to confirm that reported reductions and removals are real, accurate, and properly monitored. This can include site visits, data reviews, and stakeholder interviews.
How we ensure quality
We apply strict requirements and ongoing oversight to ensure VVBs operate with independence and integrity. All approved VVBs must:
Be accredited by a recognised international body such as the International Accreditation Forum (IAF).
Demonstrate proven expertise in relevant project types and methodologies.
Adhere to Cercarbono’s ethical standards of impartiality and transparency.
Comply with the requirements set out in our Procedures of Cercarbono’s Certification Programme.
VVB performance is monitored continuously, with corrective actions and sanctions applied if necessary.
Become a VVB
We welcome applications from qualified organisations that meet our accreditation requirements. Guidance is available in the Procedures of Cercarbono’s Certification Programme.
